Birds Nest Cookies

1 1/3 Flaked coconut
1 cup butter/margarine,softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all- purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cups M&M's semi sweet chocolate mini baking bits

When we made birds nest cookies we did not use semi sweet M&M's.
First preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Then spread the coconut on a non greased cookie sheet, toast coconut till golden brown for about 25 minutes.
Then put the oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl combine cream, butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Then beat in a egg and vanilla. Then in a medium bowl put in Flour and salt then blend into the creamed mixture. Add 1 cup of M&M's, form into balls about a little more then 1 inch, roll in coconut and place on greased cookie sheet. Push thumb in center of balls. Bake till golden brown or 12 -15 minutes. Then put cookies onto cooling rack. Then put 6 or 7 M&M's in the cookies. Enjoy!!!
